The technical certificate units are the part of an apprenticeship that is knowledge based and tested through multiple choice exams. It sounds like the daunting part or the difficult part – the exam.
But in reality, the topics covered in my technical certificate (tech cert) units were things that I’d learnt through my job and had become almost common knowledge. For some questions and topics I did have to revise and do some research for, as not everything you study in your apprenticeship you can learn and cover through work. For example, subjects such as maternity leave and conferences.
The exam itself was absolutely fine. It’s easier for me, as my office often hold exams in one of the smaller side offices, so I didn’t have to wait long or travel far. The test papers were split in two: the answer sheet where you would mark A, B, C or D and the question paper. The questions were fairly ambiguous so I made sure that I read the question and the answers fully. But I think I did good overall, so now I have 3 more tech cert units to book exams for and look forward to!
