Now i’ve completed my technical certificate and my functional skills, all that’s left of my apprenticeship is to collect evidence to prove my competency. It’s not exam based, the main part of the apprenticeship, so the tutor needs to collect evidence that shows i know what i’m doing – it’s a little bit like coursework.
My role in this is to make sure that i complete the work set to me and to meet with my tutor when planned. Work that i can do on my own is stuff like writing evidence statements and collecting evidence from my work that i’ve done. When i meet with my tutor, she can collect evidence my doing question and answer sessions and observations.
I’m due to finish my apprenticeship next month, so i’m keeping disciplined with my deadlines and making sure i’m completing work on time. This morning i wrote an evidence statement on a work project i carried out. This can be used by my tutor to cover criteria over a few units which is what it’s all about now – having a tick next to the criteria which means the tutor has evidence to prove i am competent in this area. So when all the criteria have ticks next to them for all the units, my portfolio will be ready to submit to the internal verifier (IV) who will determine if there is sufficient evidence.
I know how evidence is collected now so it’s quicker and can cover more. I’m on the back straight and it’s exciting stuff!
